5 years ago Jeremy Dias won Canada’s second largest human rights settlement, and started an initiative that would grow to be an international leader in stopping bullying in schools and communities in Ottawa, and all over the world.  In celebration, the organization will host a 5th Anniversary Gala on April 14th, 2010.  The event will also confer the Youth Role Model Award on Grandfather William Commanda, the Hon. Hedy Fry, and the Arnprior GSA.

EVENT:

Date: April 14th, 2010
Location: The Exchange Restaurant (Rideau Centre, Ottawa, ON)

April 13th, 2010

“I still can’t believe it out our fifth year”, said founder and volunteer executive director Jeremy Dias. “After all this time, it is amazing that we have made it this far!”

Jer's Vision: Canada's Youth Diversity Initiative (& the international Day of Pink) will be celebrating its 5th anniversary on April 14th, 2010 at 7pm at the Exchange (50 Rideau St, new restaurant in the Rideau Centre, formerly the Elephant and Castle).

The event will celebrate diversity, and will include a reception, special performances, and surprises. The event will also confer the Youth Role Model of the Year Award to: Grandfather William Commanda; Hon Hedy Fry; & The Arnprior District High School GSA. Grandfather Commanda is the hereditary Chief of the Algonquins, the Carrier of the Sacred Wampum Belts, and longtime supporter of youth initiatives. The Hon. Hedy Fry is a true Ally, as a politician (and activist) she has made change to promote diversity (especially around Same-Sex Marriage). The Arnprior District GSA is being recognized for their work in promoting diversity in rural communities and being the provinces largest GSA! The event will be hosted by Kevin Newman from Global National.

“Our greatest accomplishment for me is the work that we have done in schools”, said board President Erin Lux.  “Over the past five years we have done workshops, conferences and supported youth initiatives in hundred of schools in Ottawa and across the country; not to mention what we are doing with the Day of Pink!”

“Next for Jer’s Vision, is new programs that reach more you, and outreach to rural communities.  We are also excited to be going to be extending program to Maritimes, BC & the Prairies and event up north”, said Jeremy Dias.
