Released: Tuesday April 13, 2010 (Canada) - Jeremy Dias

3.6 million of those will be in Canada

1 in 10 Canadians wear PINK to stop bullying on April 14, 2010

Three years ago, a gay youth came to school wearing a pink shirt and was bullied.  Two weeks later hundreds of youth came to school wearing pink to make a stand, and say that they choose to stop bullying, discrimination, and homophobia in their school.  Three years later, the schools, businesses and organization continue to stand up, and make a difference.

EVENT:
Day of Pink
Date: April 14th, 2010
Location: Everywhere!
Time: All Day

The Male teachers at Green Acres School in Stoney Creek have committed to the anti-bullying Day of Pink on Wednesday April 14th, and will be wearing articles of pink clothing and doing special anti-bullying activities on that day to support the Day of Pink.

In Turkey, students will be competing in a Motto writing contest to stop bullying in schools.

In Ottawa, students at Colonel By Secondary School are organizing an assembly featuring the only openly lesbian Member of Parliament to ever by elected, Libby Davies, and Karen Blachford, Paralympics Gold Medal Wheelchair curler.

In other parts of the country, kindergarten students will be taking the Anti-Bullying Pledge, and making pink flowers to create a Pledge Garden (to never bully and to never allow others to bully them). The Grade 6 and 7 students will be working on special anti-bullying posters to share with the Primary children.

All of this, because some students in Nova Scotia, and Ottawa connected an imagined a day where people can get together, and stop bullying.  Who knew, it would be millions working together for the same cause.

“It is truly incredible to work on a project that touches people all over the world” said Day of Pink co-coordinator Morgan Betts. A volunteer, like everyone on the Day of Pink team, Morgan has been spreading the world and sending kits to schools and organizations all over the world.

“My favorite part has been to hear the stories and what people will be doing with their Day fo Pink” said Fatouma, the Day of Pink co-coordinator.

The organization behind the Day of Pink, Jer’s Vision, will be celebrating by participating in as many Day of Pink events as it can, and then hosting a Gala that evening at the Exchange in the Rideau Centre.

“It is truly remarkable” said Jeremy Dias, Jer’s Vision/Day of Pink volunteer executive director. “It is truly a grassroots local-international youth initiative to make to make the world a better place.  You just don’t see things like this all the time.  I can’t wait to see a sea of pink tomorrow!”

Yours truly,
