Theatre Junction GRAND’s exciting 2017/2018 season reflects the company’s vision of expanding its activities to be a place where the best artists in Calgary can create, nurture and present their work.

"This season, there will be a whirlwind of activity. Visual art, film, and work by local artists, alongside our season of national and international work, will create a hub of activity and exploration at Theatre Junction GRAND," says Guy de Carteret, Executive Director. "Our goal is to become a revitalized public space that increases our civic footprint, where we participate in the life of the city and create a culture of innovation, exploration and learning through the arts."

From September 1-30, patrons can purchase 2 tickets for $50 to any show in the Flanagan Series. After that, regular ticket prices will be in effect.

THEATRE

The 2017/18 season will present 3 shows in the Flanagan theatre, along with a new Studio Series, comprising of TJLabs and NEXT STAGE.

Flanagan Series

THUS SPOKE – Etienne Lepage & Frederick Gravel (Montreal)

October 18 - 21, 2017

Co-presented with Springboard Performance’s Fluid Festival

UNCENSORED. INNER. MONOLOGUE.

At center stage stands a single microphone. Four characters take on society, ranting about how to use crowd-funding to raise money to commit a murder; why ‘we’ no longer care about anything; what a privilege it is to be wasting time and why all shows suck.

Music by Jimi Hendrix and other blues and country artists complete the backdrop.

MDLSX - Motus (Italy)

January 25 - 27, 2018

Presented by Theatre Junction and One Yellow Rabbit Performance Theatre as part of the 32nd annual High Performance Rodeo

AUTOFICTION. DJ SET. ANDROGYNY.

Imagine not choosing one gender, but just being. MDLSX is a solo-performance that prompts you to do just that.

Life stories, home video and photographs, mashed up with academic research on the queer community, and fiction about the culture, the topic of androgyny is tackled in a unique and personal way.

Music includes The Smiths, Vampire Weekend, R.E.M and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

WROUGHT - Rachid Ouramdane (France)

April 11 - 14, 2018

DANCE. HYPNOTIC. MESMERIZING.

A stark white room with two spinning bars and two women dancing seamlessly around, WROUGHT creates an atmosphere that is all encompassing and hypnotic.

WROUGHT is an intimate story that feels like both spoken poetry and personal testimony. Each woman’s unique way of dance tells us who they are and most of all shows us how movement reveals someone.

VISUAL ART + INSTALLATIONS

We’re filling our walls, nooks and crannies with art: in the lobby, in Workshop Kitchen + Culture and in the mezzanine. We’re also presenting our new digital art series "Under the Ocular." You can catch the first installation, created by Amelia May Scott beginning August 31st.

SOUNDINGS

(verb): the bringing together of a community to listen and learn from each other in order to influence change.

Highly inclusive and participatory conversation, Soundings are facilitated open-space gatherings where the people in the room can explore a theme and share their wisdom, experience and create social and personal change. This past year we brought together emerging and established artists, and arts organizations to discuss how artists can make a career of their art in Calgary. We have new topics planned for this coming season that will explore different aspects of society.
