The Coming Out Monologues Bow Valley Highlights Local LGBTQ2SIA+ Stories for a Good Cause

The Coming Out Monologues Bow Valley (TCOMBV), a celebration of the LGBTQ2SIA (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, two-spirit, intersex, and asexual) community and allies, is pleased to announce its Fall 2017 Banff and Canmore performance dates. With two shows at ArtsPlace in Canmore on September 10th at 2pm and 7pm, and one at Wild Bill’s in Banff on September 17th at 9pm, TCOMBV will feature stories and performances to highlight local LGBTQ+ voices and raise money for Camp fYrefly, a non-profit leadership summer camp serving the Bow Valley’s LGBTQ+ youth.

Providing a stage for the local community to share their stories with pride, TCOMBV will feature a diverse selection of spoken word, artistic and multi-media monologues that run the gamut of emotions from funny to poignant, insightful to moving. These stories are as colourful as our rainbow and we invite all members of the Bow Valley to come and experience this unique event.

"I am excited to be bringing this unique performance to the Bow Valley, We do not often hear from our local LGBTQ+ community, and I know that we have something special to share", said Mikaël, Director of TCOMBV.

"Come to TCOMBV with an open mind, spirit and heart, and you will be certain to leave changed. I am really proud of our cast and production team, because together we have created something to remember."

Camp fYrefly is a 4-day residential style summer leadership retreat for sexual and gender minority youth who variously identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-identified, two-spirited, queer and allied. It focuses on building and nurturing their leadership potential and personal resiliency in an effort to help them become agents for positive social change in their schools, families, faith groups, and communities. More than 1000 youth have participated in the Camp’s award-winning programming to date. 100% of all proceeds raised will be donated directly to Camp fYrefly in order to help them fulfill their mission. More information on the camp is available on their website at www.campfyrefly.ca.

The Coming Out Monologues Bow Valley is part of a larger global movement to share personal coming out stories from members of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer communities. These stories empower people to live as their true selves and help to build a sense of community and create allies. These events also create safe spaces for the Bow Valley’s LGBTQ+ community and sends a strong message that the Bow Valley is inclusive and welcoming to emerging voices.

Tickets are available for $15 in advance or $20 at the door and can be purchased through ArtsPlaceCanmore.com for the Canmore shows, and through EventBrite.ca for the Banff show. Details and more information is available on our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/TCOMBV/
