Your Queer Career: The Ultimate Career Guide for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Job Seekers
by Riley B. Folds III, MS, CDP, will be published on Monday, May 20 by the Magnus imprint of Riverdale
Avenue Books, the nation’s fastest growing publisher of pop
culture literature.
Riley B. Folds III has more than a decade of experience in working with LGBTQ
college students. He is the founder of OUT for Work, the only national
nonprofit organization dedicated to educating, preparing and empowering LGBTQ
college students and their allies for the transition from academia to the workplace.
"This is an extension of my life’s work," says Folds. "It is the ultimate
LGBTQ guide to work and career. I am thrilled to be working with
Riverdale Avenue Books and Magnus. Their reach into the LGBTQ community
is substantial and I love the passion they bring to this project."
In Your Queer Career Folds explains the challenges that the LGBTQ
community may face as employees and equips them with the tools and resources to
make better-informed decisions that are critical in career development.
He gives advice on networking, on common practices to combat discrimination
based on sexual orientation/gender identity and much more such as answering
such questions as-
- How do I find LGBTQ companies?
- Should I come out on my resume?
- How do I come out during an interview?
- What should I do if I experience discrimination in the workplace?
Answers to these questions and others will help readers make the right
decisions in their careers so that success seems attainable.
"Riley Fold’s book was something I’d never seen before. It’s more than
just a coming out book, more than a career guide for LGBT people. The
book walks readers through the coming out in the workplace process but also
offers valuable advice on dealing with workplace discrimination, particularly
in states where it’s legal to fire someone over sexual orientation and gender
identity and knowing your rights as an employee. The exercises included
really make this a hands-on read. Riley’s writing is affirming,
inspirational and non-judgmental, allowing the reader to make choices for him
or herself. I’m very proud to include Your Queer Career on the
Magnus list," said Don Weise, Editorial Director of Riverdale/Magnus.
