Professional
dancers from Calgary will unite for a performance in support of the victims of
the recent earthquakes and tsunami in Japan.
The
performance will feature dancers with Alberta Ballet, Decidedly Jazz
Danceworks, W & M Physical Theatre and students from the Suzuki Talent
Education Society.
"This
is the first time I've realized I might never set foot in my country again. As
much as I love this city, Japan is and always will be my home," says Yukichi
Hattori, Alberta Ballet dancer and choreographer. "Please, help to save my home."
All
performers and staff have volunteered their time and all money raised from the
performance will directly aid victims of the devastation through the Think the
Earth Fund.
"When such a great force tears us apart, we will
unite and become stronger to survive. Even people, who are not directly
involved in the disaster, are affected." Says Hattori. "I knew I needed to do
something to help. I am excited so many of my colleagues have offered to
participate."

"Art
is and always has been a medium that shines a light and makes us realize what
we really need to maintain a balance, or a direct reflection of the state of
our world," says Hattori. "When we are sad, art makes us smile. When we are
happy, it gives us a reason to cry. When we are rich, art becomes decadent. When
we are poor, it becomes minimalistic."
