Agency to Commemorate
December 1, 2010 At Events Throughout the City
Edmonton – On December 1, 2010,
HIV Edmonton and the City of Edmonton will participate in the 22nd Annual World
AIDS Day.
The World AIDS Campaign is a
global coalition united by the call for governments to honour their AIDS
commitments under the slogan "Stop AIDS. Keep the Promise." For 2010,
the global theme of the World AIDS Day campaign is "Universal Access and
Human Rights: Light Up for Rights". As HIV Edmonton wraps up their
25th Anniversary
Legacy Project, several local events will be held to commemorate World AIDS
Day.
The red ribbon is worn in
memory of those who have died of an AIDS related illness and is a symbol of the
need for an end to this pandemic. In commemoration of the lives lost, it is HIV
Edmonton’s goal to distribute 5,000 red ribbons to be worn on the lapels of
Edmontonians this World AIDS Day.
In partnership with Starbucks,
Edmontonians can purchase a red ribbon at any Edmonton Starbucks location.
Purchasing a red ribbon makes a major contribution to this year's World AIDS
Day campaign, raising awareness and vital funds for HIV Edmonton. Personalities
from various media outlets will participate in the "Starbucks Celebrity
Baristas" promotion. Red ribbons will also be distributed to City Hall and
local media outlets.
