Second in Distinguished Speaker Series, Screening of “Fig Trees” at Metro CinemaHIV Edmonton is proud to announce John Greyson, an award-winning Canadian filmmaker and activist, as the second speaker in the Distinguished Speakers Series. A component of the Legacy Project, the Distinguished Speaker Series will be comprised of five (5) speakers, all leaders, historians and innovators in the global fight against HIV/AIDS.
Greyson will speak at Metro Cinema on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at 7 pm. Following the talk, attendees will be treated to a special screening of Greyson’s award-winning film, Fig Trees, a documentary opera about the struggles of AIDS activists in South Africa. Admission is free, with a suggested donation of $10.
CBC Edmonton is pleased to partner with HIV Edmonton to sponsor the Distinguished Speaker Series.
Greyson will speak on Other People’s Words: 25 Years of Films about AIDS and will highlight clips from three of his AIDS-themed films: The ADS Epidemic, Letter to Ray Navarro, and winner of Best Canadian Film at the 1993 Sudbury Film Festival, Zero Patience. Greyson will lead a discussion examining how film relates to both mainstream and underground representations of AIDS over the last 25 years.
