Edmonton’s Catalyst Theatre and multi-Tony Award winning Broadway producers Radio Mouse Entertainment are pleased to announce an open ended Off Broadway run of Catalyst’s multi-award winning production Nevermore, The Imaginary Life and Mysterious Death of Edgar Alan Poe in New York City in January 2015.

Tickets are on sale today (www.telecharge.com), with previews beginning January 14, 2015. Opening Night takes place January 25, 2015 at New World Stages (# 1 340 W 50th St, New York, NY), in a 499 seat venue in the heart of the Broadway district. (http://newworldstages.com)

"I am so excited to be able to share this news! We always work toward making opportunities like this a possibility and this time it is happening for us. The Radio Mouse producers are so passionate about the creative vision and team behind Nevermore and the potential for this production to have an exciting future. I look forward to the upcoming adventure with these wonderful partners and the entire Catalyst team." Eva Cairns, Managing Producer, Catalyst Theatre

Nevermore came to the attention of the Radio Mouse producers in October 2010 when it was invited for 13 performances at the prestigious New Victory Theatre in NYC, on 42nd St. Nevermore's return to Manhattan will bring the full original creative team and most Catalyst cast members to the New York City run. Writer, director, composer Jonathan Christenson leads his collaborators Bretta Gerecke, Laura Krewski, Wade Staples, Betty Moulton, Matthew Skopyk and Candice Charney. The Edmonton-based cast members Shannon Blanchet, Beth Graham, Ryan Parker, Garett Ross and Scott Shpeley along with Vancouver based cast member Gaelan Beatty will be joined by three understudies and one additional actor from New York City, as well as an assistant stage manager.

About the Production:

Delightfully dark, heartbreakingly comic, playfully perverse, beautiful and grotesque, Nevermore: The Imaginary Life and Mysterious Death of Edgar Allan Poe is a whimsical and chilling musical fairytale for adults. The line between fact and fiction in this tale is slim, dreams function as reality – and just like in Poe’s work life and death are blurry. Bizarrely beautiful and wonderfully witty, Nevermore uses haunting song, poetic storytelling and surreal imagery to explore the events that shaped Poe’s career and ignited his lifelong battle with "visions dark and sinister."

Important facts about the agreement between Catalyst Theatre and Radio Mouse Entertainment

- The entire product – script, libretto, music, design – is 100% created by Canadian Artists and the integrity of the creative team will be maintained under the agreement with Radio Mouse.

- The original Edmonton/Canadian creative team and cast had right of first refusal on the commercially produced New York engagement. All except one performer signed on.

- Catalyst and its Artistic Director Jonathan Christenson (also the director, writer and composer) retain full artistic control of the creative team and casting of the production and all future iterations in North American and International markets while the productions will be 100% financed by private investors.

About Catalyst:

Founded in 1977 in Edmonton, Catalyst Theatre's original mandate was as a social action theatre company. In 1996 the company's mandate was radically changed to its current focus on creating new work. Since 2006 Catalyst has prioritized developing and touring one large-scale production every second year with the continued collaboration of a core group of artists. Under the leadership of Artistic Director Jonathan Christenson and with the ongoing collaboration of Resident Designer Bretta Gerecke Catalyst is now known for its highly identifiable aesthetic. The company's work is characterized by a bold and distinctive theatricality that integrates a strong musical component with striking visual imagery, a heightened physical performance style, poetic text, and an often darkly comic sensibility.

Catalyst has toured its productions to the UK, across Canada, Australia and the USA since 1997. These have included The House of Pootsie Plunket, The Blue Orphan and, more recently, Frankenstein, Nevermore, The Imaginary Life and Mysterious Death of Edgar Allan Poe and Hunchback.

On November 14, 2014, Catalyst announced their relocation from C103 in Edmonton to the Citadel as Resident Company of the Maclab Theatre beginning in September of 2015. Catalyst is currently running Elephant Wake, its first international critical success, at C103 until November 29, 2014. Catalyst’s most recent production, Vigilante, is part of the Citadel’s current theatre season and will be on the Maclab stage March 7 – 29, 2015.
