Everyone watched in wonder as Matthew McConaughey went from this...

...to this.

Now, you can finally see a little bit of what that was all about. Texas-native McConaughey lost nearly 50 lbs for his role in "Dallas Buyers Club," due out Dec 6. McConaughey plays Ron Woodroof, a Texas electrician who is diagnosed HIV-positive in 1986. It takes place in Dallas.

The film, which is based on a true story, follows Woodroof as he searches for medical supplies in Mexico to save his life. During his quest to survive and make the most of his life, Woodroof he meets up with a transgender prostitute (Jared Leto) who becomes his friend and business partner.

It’s no wonder McConaughey took the role so seriously. It smells pretty strongly of Oscar nods.
