Ignite your imagination this holiday season with Alberta Ballet’s grand production of The Nutcracker.
Described as one of Canada’s best interpretations of this holiday classic featuring exquisite dance, spectacular sets and costumes, over 120 performers of all ages, a live orchestra and Tchaikovsky’s timeless score, this cherished production has become a long-standing tradition for Alberta families and our artists.
Join us on a magical family adventure to the land of the Sugarplum Fairy this Christmas and create memories that will last a lifetime. The most extraordinary way to introduce children to live music, ballet, costuming and storytelling in dance performed by local and international artists – some as young as five-years-old - The Nutcracker will leave you basking in the warm glow of holiday spirit.
THERE’S NO DOUBT THAT THE PRODUCTION WITH ITS MASTERFUL CHOREOGRAPHY, TCHAICOVSKY’S BEWITCHING MUSIC PERFORMED BY A LIVE ORCHESTRA, AND MAGICAL SCENE CHANGES AND COSTUMES, IS A WORK OF ART – VUE WEEKLY
"This is the time of year when our ballet family celebrates with all Albertans and becomes part of their holiday traditions," said Artistic Director Jean Grand-Maitre. "We always look forward to working with the children’s cast from Alberta Ballet School as well as our friends at the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. It’s magical for everyone."
Choreographed by Edmund Stripe, Alberta Ballet’s The Nutcracker captures the elements of a Victorian Christmas with dazzling sets and costumes designed by Emmy Award winner Zack Brown.
See Canada’s most acclaimed Nutcracker the way it was meant to be experienced. This year, the lobby will be a flurry of child-friendly activities before the curtain rises including special guest appearances, storytime, a holiday boutique, and much more.
