As the world gets ready to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots in New York City, and the 50th anniversary of homosexuality being decriminalized in Canada, baritones Adam Arnold and Adam Brousseau, along with pianist Claire Butler, are excited to bring a queer focused concert to the Polaris Centre for the Performing Arts on Friday May 24 at 7:30pm.
The program focuses around a reimagining of Robert Schumann’s song cycle Dichterliebe, a staple of classical German romantic music which will be shared between the two singers, and the world premier of a cycle of queer love songs entitled he opens, written as a companion piece to Dichterliebe, by Edmonton composer Stuart Beatch with poetry taken from the works of Matthew Stepanic, current writer-in-residence for Edmonton Public Library.
The concert will be rounded out with familiar opera arias and a classic Broadway show tunes with guest performances from the newly former Three Sisters Artist Collective of Calgary.
Tickets are $20 for adults, and $15 for student/seniors available at www.polariscentre.ca
