MSQUARED2 Productions presents "Over the Rainbow" in association with Camp fYrefly-Calgary, Institute for Sexual Minority Studies, Calgary Sexual Health Centre, Fairy Tales Film Festival and Hillhurst United Church.
Over the Rainbow is an honest, amusing, and at times heartbreaking tale of local LGBTQ Youth and allies who have the courage, heart, and wisdom to share their personal journeys of resilence and triumph over adversity. In this local documentary film you will follow these storytellers down the "yellow brick road" and "over the rainbow" to the magical land of Camp fYrefly, where the journey to authenticity brings the strength, happiness and joy of what it means to find there’s really "no place like home" when you find a community who loves you.
Featured in this film are Nate Phelps (LGBTQ Advocate), Carly York-Jones (Carly’s Angels of Lolita’s Lounge, Inglewood), Constable Tad Milmine (www.bullyingendshere.ca), Pam Rocker (Co-Chair Affirm United, Affirming Coordinator – Hillhurst Church), along with many campers, youth leaders, actors, and parents who brilliantly weave together a story never told so bravely or openly before, which demonstrates amazing hope and promise for a better future for all.
Although rated ‘M’ for Munchkins of all ages, raw and difficult stories are shared and harsh and homophobic language is some- times used. Parental discretion is advised.
Following the film presentation, a panel discussion will commence featuring Camp fYrefly’s Co-Founder, Dr. Kristopher Wells, the Director of the documentary MSQUARED2 Productions, members of the cast, and local community supporters.
