Written in 1976, Wallace Shawn's infamous play A Thought in Three Parts created a controversial uproar even in the midst of a sexual revolution. For its depictions of graphic sexuality, violence and full---frontal nudity, the play was not produced on this continent for over thirty years after being written. It has been called everything from  "unproducible" to "pornographic," but has never been called boring.

The play consists of three smaller vignettes that examine, unflinchingly, themes of sex, sexuality, desire, violence, human connection, loneliness and longing. A challenging play for both audience and artist, it is hilarious and heart wrenching, authentic and absurd, beautiful and grotesque. Written by a world---class playwright, and produced by one of  Alberta’s most daring companies, A Thought in Three Parts has been produced less than six times worldwide in its forty---year history. Theatre Outré guarantees a visceral and shocking theatrical experience unlike anything you have ever seen in Calgary or anywhere else. It leaves its performers both physically and emotionally naked.

A young queer theatre company in the heart of Southern Alberta, Theatre Outré was thrust into a media spotlight just over a year ago while working on this production, when they were the recipients of harassment by those in their community who misunderstood or outright objected to the work they were producing as socially minded artists in their community. This local scandal made headlines nationwide and the result  strengthened Theatre Outré’s resolve to produce theatre that provokes, challenges  and questions norms. It is for this reason that they are so passionate about bringing this show to Calgary.

A Thought in Three Parts is directed by Kyle Schulte, Jay Whitehead and Richie Wilcox and features the design work of Aaron Collier and Rob Stanford. The cast is comprised of a unique and courageous group of emerging professional actors from across Alberta including Brett Dahl, Samantha Jeffery, Ryan Reese, Craig McCue and Sam Benty. The play runs from March 31 – April 4 2015, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday shows at 8pm with Friday and Saturday shows at 9:00pm. Held at The Motel Theatre in Arts Commons. Tickets are $25 regular, $20 Student and can be purchased at the door. Reservations can be made at www.theatreoutre.ca
