Free event in partnership with Magic Lantern Theatres and City Television

JTMF West is proud to announce "HIV & Millenials: Who Cares?" to be held Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at the Princess Theatre (10337 Whyte Ave.) at 7:00pm. This is a FREE ADMISSION event, with a suggested donation of $10.

JTMF West has partnered with Magic Lantern Theatres and City Television for this event and any funds raised will go to Team JTMF West or the Magic Lantern Team in this year’s AIDS Walk for Life, to benefit HIV Edmonton.

With advances in treatment and prevention, the AIDS movement finds itself in a bit of an identity crisis – how do we activate the youth advocates in 2014? When you look at successes in treatment and the advent of PrEP, what should our message be? How do we evolve on pace with technology and medicine?

This free event begins with a screening of the Oscar nominated film "How To Survive a Plague", followed by a panel discussion of the changing face of volunteerism and activism in 2014. The panel is populated by activists and advocates from "the beginning" (i.e. the 80s and early 90s) and from now, and will discuss how engagement has changed as the pandemic has evolved.

The panel will be moderated by Ryan Jespersen  of Breakfast Television and will feature:

- Joshua Bergman – Registered Nurse working in field of HIV and STI, Master of Public Health from UBC

- Murray Billett – Former Police Commissioner, Former HIV Edmonton Board Member

- Laura Keegan – HIV Edmonton Director of Resource Development and Public Engagement

- Jeff Keller – AIDS Activist, Former Canadian AIDS Society board member, Former Chair of HIV Edmonton Board

- Michael Phair – Founder of HIV Edmonton and long-time activist

- LJ Steele – JTMF West Board Member, Emperor 35 of The Imperial Sovereign Court of the Wild Rose, Founder of Camp Millicent's Red Diamond Retreat for Children and Families affected by HIV.
