Released: Monday June 29, 2009 (Edmonton, AB)

Emily Morgan is Michael Ormandy’s niece. As her doting and loving uncle, Michael has organized a fundraiser for the Emily Morgan Foundation on Sunday, August 9 at the Diamond Park Ball Diamond (River Valley) from noon to 5pm. By participating in this event, you will be supporting The Emily Morgan Foundation. Please read on for details...

Emily Morgan was an energetic and creative girl whose life ended far too early at the young age of 14. In February 2002, Emily underwent a life-saving double-lung transplant, necessitated after years of lung damage from Cystic Fibrosis. The transplant team at the Toronto Sick Kids Hospital was phenomenal, and with the new lease on life given her, Emily captured the imagination of her community. Despite her health hardships, Emily’s big smile and vivacious personality always shone brightly. She inspired so many — those she knew personally, and those who only came to know her through her story, so caringly told in the pages of the local paper. Emily symbolized the significance and success of organ donation, and she took on this role with pride and gusto. She always welcomed the opportunity to bring awareness to the importance of signing your donor card and discussing your intentions with your family. Aptly described as “spunky” and “tenacious” by the press, Emily was an absolute pleasure and joy as a daughter, and a loyal protector and best pal as a sister. Her very presence is missed terribly each and every day by her family and friends.

In establishing The Emily Morgan Foundation, the delightful spirit of our remarkable girl will be kept alive in the community by providing financial assistance to other families with sick children. Eleven monetary gifts of this kind have already been given. In addition, in the Third Annual Emily Morgan Courageous Spirit Awards and Honouraria have been recently presented to two graduating students at Emily’s home town school: Homedale Senior Elementary School.

We would greatly appreciate a donation from your business or organization to this fundraiser. Or if you would like to enter a team, please contact Michael Ormandy at 780-479-6533.

Thank you so much for participating in this FUNdraising event in support of The Emily Morgan Foundation.
