A Celebration of LGBT Human Rights - 40 Years Later

Egale's annual Gala event will be celebrating the 40th anniversary of a landmark advance in Canada's LGBT history. In 1969, Bill C-150 was introduced to re-examine a host of issues including the criminality of homosexual acts between consenting adults. To celebrate the Bill's ruby anniversary, Egale's annual gala will mark the occasion.

On Friday June 5th, the King Edward Hotel will play host to the event, which will feature special guest speaker Justin Trudeau, MP and event co-chairs Senator Nancy Ruth, Rex Harrington and the Hon. Belinda Stronach. Elvira Kurt and her wicked wit will be acting as Emcee. There will also be the presentation of Egale's inaugural Leadership Award to Jaime Watt for his outstanding work to promote equality for gays and lesbians at every level of government.

The theme of the event will be based on Pierre Elliott Trudeau's now world famous quote regarding homosexuality: "There's no place for the state in the bedrooms of the nation."

Super hip designer SUPERSTEIN will be presenting his bold and playful vision in a fashion show not for the faint of heart. His work has been featured in Vogue, Flare, MTV and more for over 20 years and has made him the darling of legendary Club Kids, celebrities and fashionistas the world over.

Reception begins at 6pm in the Vanity Fair room, followed by dinner at 7pm and an after party beginning at 9 in the Windsor room featuring Coup Digital and DJs Jamal, Christopher Lee and Shawn Ryker.

Funds raised by the gala will be used to help start Gay Straight Alliances in schools across Canada.
