International gay rights organization finds strength in Rabe’s anthem, while video sends powerful message
The MuseBox today announced that All Out, the leading international gay rights organization, has teamed with breakthrough artist Scarlett Rabe to launch a powerful video for Scarlett’s hit song "Battle Cry." The video features images that highlight the global work of the All Out community. All Out created the video by using content submitted by All Out members over the last several years, from campaigns around anti-gay laws in Russia and Uganda to anti-LGBT violence in Brazil. Scarlett, a straight ally and All Out member, has recently earned comparisons to Florence and the Machine and Feist. "Battle Cry" is the first single off Scarlett’s new record, Scarlett, which is available in her online store.
Andre Banks, Executive Director of All Out, explains why the organization reached out to Scarlett: "We were inspired by the message of ‘Battle Cry’ and jumped at the opportunity to work with Scarlett." According to Banks, "All Out is a huge global community fighting for full equality, each of us giving our time and talents in a different way. Scarlett’s song is an incredible contribution to the movement and the perfect backdrop to highlight the incredible work of the All Out community."
Scarlett recognizes the seriousness of the issue of inequality: "Throughout history, people and governments have used religion, nationality, skin color or other hateful excuses to justify violence and discrimination against human beings. Today, it is still a crime to be gay in 77 countries." According to Scarlett, "All Out is changing the perspectives of these people and misguided policies of these governments. I’m honored to be able to add my voice to All Out’s exclamation that everyone deserves the basic human right to live and to love."
All Out’s use of "Battle Cry" is another indicator of how the classically trained Scarlett and her anthem are increasing in popularity. Fans recently selected "Battle Cry" as their favorite video on mtvU’s The Freshmen, putting the video into regular rotation on mtvU, MTV’s award-winning college channel. Scarlett, the songwriter known for her "haunting riffs and empowering words" (Marie Claire), was forbidden as a child from participating in popular culture. She now has well over one million Facebook fans, and has earned comparisons to Florence and the Machine and Fiona Apple. Based in Los Angeles, Scarlett claims as her songwriting heroes Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, and Carole King. Scarlett is currently on tour in support of "Battle Cry."< /p>
