Well first off, Happy New Year everyone! Right now I’m sure we’re all going through that little phase of cursing and scribbling out the 2004 we wrote by accident. But give it a month or two and we’ll be well on our way to doing the same with 2005 come 2006.
We were really busy homos this month, so you’ll find this issue packed with December photos. As if Christmas wasn’t hectic enough, we ran to 9 of Calgary’s gay bars on New Years Eve. Unfortunately the clock struck 12 while we were en route between The Verge and Detour, but regardless we had a phenomenal night!
We have a couple of upcoming events early this year need mentioning. Powder and Pride has been postponed! Originally planned for January 21st-23rd, it has been rescheduled for April 1st-3rd. Also Calgary Eagle’s 3rd year anniversary is coming up on February 19th, so mark it down on your calendars!
This issue we’re starting our first annual Reader’s Choice Survey. We have some really nice prizes to give away, sponsored by The Bay Downtown and One Yellow Rabbit. For your convenience, ballot boxes will be available at all of Calgary’s gay bars, and we will also be implementing an online voting system. Last month our main writer Jason Clevett had a fantastic interview on Stephen Lock’s radio show, Speak Sebastian. We had a good chuckle as he told some of his anecdotes about us and the magazine. All in all it was very well done – it certainly beat poor Rob’s "filling a gap that needed filling" comment on our CBC Radio interview in November. He still growls and smacks his forehead every time he’s reminded of that, so naturally we try to bring it up as much as possible!
After that incident, Rob promptly decided to keep his mouth shut during our TV interview on the legalization of Gay Marriage. We were at the press conference at Twisted Element the day the Supreme Court made their ruling, and we appeared on camera in a personal capacity to express our own opinions in favour. It is definitely an option we would like available to us for one of these days. Anyway, that’s the end of our media-whore streak for now.
