Money-Pennies lets you start the day off on the right foot. You can come in and get buttermilk pancakes, French toast, pan fried potatoes, English muffins and lots more. I did sample one of their pancakes when I was there. I found them very fluffy, pretty thick, and it did not feel like it would weight you down. For those of you who want meat in their breakfast, you can have Steak and eggs with a 6oz sirloin steak with two eggs, pan fries and toast. They also have a selection of omelets with your choice of three fillings. After having a long night clubbing, keep in mind that Money-Pennies does serve breakfast all day long as well.
If you can’t make it out during the week, Money-Pennies does serve brunch specials on the weekends. Try their Eggs Benedict, which is done as the original style with ham and a home made hollandaise sauce. Also they have eggs chipotle with a mexi-spiced chicken, mixed vegetables, chipotle sauce and melted cheese.
They have a wide selection of appetizers. Everyday, Money-Pennies makes their soup of the day from scratch. You can order chicken wings or ribs by the pound. They also have hand cut French fries with the skins left on which are salted just right. My husband and I enjoy Money-Pennies’ nacho platter that has red, green and yellow chips on it, topped with mounts of cheese, black olives, jalapeños, tomatoes, green onions, and for $2.25, you can add beef or chicken. Of course it also comes with sour cream and salsa. I found out that they have the chips specially made for Money-Pennies too.
Sandwiches and burgers come with a mound of hand cut French fries or garden salad and your choice of dressing, or caeser salad with Money-Pennies own creamy dressing or cup of their homemade soup. They have a grilled Reuben sandwich that has thinly-sliced corned beef, sauerkraut and Swiss cheese, or you can have a classic triple decker clubhouse with grilled chicken, ham, cheddar cheese, bacon, tomato, pickles and lettuce. For those who want to keep it simple or just want a home-style lunch, they have their choice of grilled cheese, sirloin steak, tuna salad or egg salad sandwich or a beef dip.
Burgers are only $8.25 each, and my favourite is the MP Burger. The patty is hand mixed with their secret seasonings, charbroiled and topped with sautéed mushrooms, bacon and cheddar cheese. This burger is enjoyed best on their roof top patio, weather permitting of course, with a cold beer. With the patty being charbroiled, you can have that BBQ flavour, and you don’t have to go through the work of doing it yourself. Just come down and try it. I am told that it is the most popular item on the menu.
You can also have a grilled chicken breast served on grill toast or their fish burger, which as a cod loin, delicately steamed with garlic butter and dill weed. It is served on a sesame seed Kaiser with tarter sauce, lettuce, tomatoes, red onion and pickles. You can also try their vegetarian burger.
When it comes to Money-Pennies Caesar salad, they make their own creamy Caesar dressing. I it when I was there. It had just enough dressing on the greens with a nice topping of Parmesan cheese. The dressing was not too garlicky either.
You can also get the MP’s Tostada, which is a salad server in a tortilla shell, or the Thai Chicken Salad, which has oriental noodles, Thai peanut sauce with Tai chicken.
They have a section of MP’s favourites from past menus. Original PO boy with sliced beef or chicken with sautéed mushrooms and gravy. A PO boy is short submarine bun with the top cut open for the topping to be added. The favourites menu also includes the BBQ beef bun, honey mustard or chicken chipotle melts.
When you go to Money-Pennies, you should definitely try their homemade cheesecake. Their cheesecakes are made from scratch and are heavenly. Topped with strawberries, whipped cream and strawberry sauce and the thin crust with a hint of cinnamon, make the taste of the flavours burst in your mouth. Something I will try the next time I am down is their Mocha Kahlua wrap, which is Mocha Kahlua cheesecake that is deep-fried in a wrap. Sounds unusual, but certainly worth trying. Make sure you check with your server to see what desserts they have available since they do make changes to the dessert menu.
The newly renovated restaurant is very inviting with a nice country theme. When you come into Money-Pennies, it is a very comfortable feeling. It feels like everyone knows one another, and everyone around you enjoys being there too. Like most restaurants, you usually don’t interact too often with other patrons, but you can easily interact with people that are eating here. Everyone that comes to Money-Pennies seems friendly, and this really creates that at home atmosphere. Around the walls they have artwork from various artists from around the community as well.
Money-Pennies also does catering. They have catered events for ARGRA, Camp 181, Apollo and several other non-profit groups at a non-profit group rates. They will cater to any size event too. I have in the past sampled some of the trays that they create for ARGRA. It has been a major treat coming to these events to see what they have brought down specifically for them. Everything from finger sandwiches to chicken wings, various types of meatballs with different sauces, tartlets, cream puffs, various squares and of course fruit and cheese platters have been served. I have enjoyed their tartlets that feature one side chocolate custard and the other banana custard.
They do have a very creative kitchen staff, so they try to accommodate to your needs by adapting menu items suit dietary needs, whether it be low carb, blood type, vegetarian, etc.
