For the past year and a half, Merlot Lounge has been creating culinary treats to satisfy any palette in a cozy, warm and lively setting.

Main menu selections include Chicken Ramozetti, Tortellini, Lamb Salad, or Penne Con Salmone. Along with a variety of salads and their soup of the day, you can also choose from the burgers, plentiful appetizers and specialty coffees to satisfy your cravings. Be sure to bring a hearty appetite as you will not be disappointed.

Some favourites are Merlot’s famous Meatballs, Calamari, and a Mediterranean style Shish Kabob. Fresh seafood is available – including their Seafood Bake, Fresh Mussels, Fish on a Stick, and Shrimp a La Greco. All dishes are accompanied by your choice of Caesar salad, French fries, or Soup of the Day.

Our visit on a cold January Friday evening proved to be a delightful and most enjoyable experience.

Patricia, the owner of Merlot Lounge graciously began our adventure with a house favourite. The Calamari, lightly breaded and deep-fried to perfection, was accompanied by a slice of lemon, red onions, sprinkles of parsley and their homemade Tzatziki. The subtle mix of lemon and Tzatziki complemented this dish perfectly.

We chose the Chicken Burger, Chicken Club, Antipasti, Croque Monsieur, and Merlot Shish-Kabob. The Chicken Burger proved popular with its mild hot sauce set off with cucumbers and mayonnaise on a fresh bun. Merlot’s Antipasti was an eye pleaser and delicious adventure – all fresh and completely satisfying. The Croque Monsieur, with its blending of melted mozzarella and black forest ham on lightly toasted bread, accompanied by a tremendous Caesar Salad, further proved to be a light and pleasant taste experience. Finally, the Merlot Shish-Kabob was a distinctly savoury item with red onions, green peppers, shrimp, Italian Sausage, and Meatballs grilled to subtly bring out the flavours of this wonderful dish.

Desserts available include Chocolate Cake, Cheese Three-Berry Cake, and Carrot Cake.

Along with the excellent fare, Merlot Lounge offers live local entertainment with a fully stocked bar and wine listing to make your experience a memorable one. Patricia also explained this upcoming Saint Patrick’s Day, there will be a Drag show featuring Devon Mills, Eartha Quake, and Bianca La Bouche. Tickets for this charity fundraiser event will be available at Merlot.

Merlot Lounge is a unique gem that shines brightly and will continue to be a pleasing and delightful experience in culinary cuisine. Our hats off to Patricia, her staff and Merlot Lounge for continuing to prove that Calgary does indeed offer the best choices in restaurants and entertainment venues.
