Excess, drama, eroticism, and a profusion of extravagant costumes
Alberta Ballet is delighted to present Love Lies Bleeding, a sensational contemporary ballet choreographed by Artistic Director Jean Grand-Maître. Performances will run in Calgary May 5-7 at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium and in Edmonton May 13-14 at the Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium.
Acclaimed by audiences and critics across North America, Jean Grand-Maître’s mesmerizing multimedia ballet fuses the joy of pop/rock with the breathtaking physicality of ballet in a dance spectacular on par with the boldest Broadway productions.
Featuring 14 classic songs by rock legends Sir Elton John and Bernie Taupin, Love Lies Bleeding depicts a musician’s rise to fame, exploring the trials, sacrifices and triumphs of achieving superstardom. Audiences will be moving and singing along to Grand-Maître’s wild and electric work, an unforgettable story of rock ‘n’ roll, drama, passion, defeat, and above all, love.
"It is always a thrilling experience to revisit this iconic Alberta Ballet mega-production and to dance to the music of one of our century's greatest songwriters and performers," says Grand-Maître.
