Get Oktoberfestive with Steam Whistle’s tips

Oktoberfest wouldn’t be complete without costumes and food! Get in the spirit by dressing the part. The "Dirndl" is the name of the traditional dress worn by Bavarian women consisting of a bodice, blouse and full skirt. If you’re looking to meet a young ‘fraulein’, pay attention to the knot in her apron: A knot on the left means she’s single, on the right means she’s taken and in the back means she’s widowed. The traditional attire for men is known as the "Lederhosen" and includes a dress shirt, suede shorts with suspenders (lederhosen), wool socks and leather shoes. Check out our 7 dress to impress tips here.

Each year in Munich,Germany festival goers consume over 7million liters of beer, 500,000 roast chickens, 240,000 sausages, 70,000 pork knuckles, and a gazillion doughy pretzels! In honour of these customary foods, Steam Whistle has Oktoberfest inspired recipes for Schnitzel and potato salad.

About Oktoberfest
Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany originated in 1810 as 16 days of festivities to commemorate the marriage of Bavaria’s King Ludwig to his bride Queen Therese. Now 200 years later it is the world’s largest fair, hosting more than 5 million people each year all there to celebrate beer. Travellers from the across the globe mingle with native Bavarians, young and old, dressed in traditional dirndl and lederhosen, parading through Munich en-route to the festival grounds. With the 12 gun salute and an official tapping of the first keg by the Mayor, Oktoberfest is open, and so begins the most incredible festival on earth. Oktoberfest runs from September 20th to October 5th in Munich this year.
