Alberta Ballet is delighted to present the company premiere of Don Quixote as the first production of the 2014-2015 Season. With performances at Calgary’s Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium September 25-27 and at Edmonton’s Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium October 3-4, this production promises to enchant audiences across the province.

Alberta Ballet would like to announce a very special cast, with Artistic Director Jean Grand- Maître as Don Quixote, marking his first time on stage in 22 years. Company dancers Hayna Gutierrez and Nicole Caron will dance the lead role of Kitri, and Garrett Groat and Jaciel Gomez will dance the lead role of Basilio.

Alberta Ballet also has the privilege of a young prodigy joining the cast for this production – 18- year-old Cesar Corrales, who has performed the role of Billy Elliot in Chicago and on Broadway, and recently won the Grand Prix and Outstanding Artistry Award at the 2014 Youth America Grand Prix in New York this past spring. Cesar will be joining the male leads as Basilio.

With choreography by Ben Stevenson OBE and stunning sets and costumes from Houston Ballet, Don Quixote is based on an episode of Miguel Cervantes' literary masterpiece. The ballet production was originally created for the Bolshoi Ballet in 1869, featuring a lively and vigorous symphonic score by Léon Fyodorovich Minkus.
