The Queens have arrived in Calgary!
The hit musical, which debuted at the 2017 at the Edenborough Fringe and spread across the world, brings the 6 wives of Henry VIII, plays at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium until May 25th.
Based on the real historical characters, the show is unique in being more of a concert than a traditional musical. Each Queen tells their story through song and are influenced by modern pop divas.
The first wife, Catherine of Aragon (Chani Maisonet) shows the flair of Beyoncé and Jennifer Hudson. Anne Boleyn (Hailey Lewis) rocks like Avril Lavigne and Lily Allen. Jane Seymour (Kelly Denice Taylor) belts out a ballad like Adele or Celine. Anna of Cleves (Danielle Mendoza) ads R&B and Hip-hop like Nicki Minaj and Rihanna. Katherine Howard(Taylor Sage Evans) brings a Britney Spears or Ariana Grande style, and Catherine Parr (Tasia Jungbauer) is modelled after Alica Keys and Emeil Sande.
The different styles make the songs stand out and the incredible cast is powerhouses vocally. Some great choreography and spectacular costumes and lights make for an epic experience.
At 80 minutes with no intermission, it’s a fast-paced blast that makes history fun.
Don’t lose your head with regret in missing SIX. It’s one of the most unique shows that has come through town and is a must see.
