Located under Whistler’s Inn is this interesting collection of taxidermy mounts of local animals found in Jasper. To get to The Den – Jasper’s Wildlife Museum, you go through Whistler’s Inn lobby to get some tokens to access it. You then follow a set of stairs down to a turn style gate. Everything is behind glass, but large animals are close enough to you that you can get great selfies.

The collection contains smaller animals like skunks, assorted birds, squirrels, racoons, along side bears of all sizes, a moose, cougars, mountain goats and more. A lot of the animals on display are labeled, so it is a great place for learning what the animals look like without them running away or trying to eat you.

During the times that I have gone, it is not too busy, so you can easily take your time. There is a lot of detail and different themes in each window. If you are expecting something massive like you would see in a big city museum, this will disappoint you. The purpose of this museum is to showcase the wild life in and around Jasper. When you see the animals out in the open and alive, you need to keep your distance, so this museum helps visitors get that close encounter experience. The museum is open to the public year-round, and you don’t need to be staying at the hotel to check it out. Whistler’s Inn and Whistler Stop Pub have also been a long-time venue and sponsor of Jasper Pride.
