With a busy schedule that I had covering Jasper Pride, I was able to pop in to Downstream twice during this trip. First time was for the Pride DJ Party with Riki Rocket on the Thursday night of Jasper Pride. The restaurant had transformed itself from being a casual but high-end restaurant to have a DJ spinning great tunes and a busy dance floor.

From the interview that I had with Lynn Wannop of Coco’s Café, she had explained that Downstream Bar had hosted one of the first gay pride dances in Jasper. The bar was packed with about 40 locals and a lot of out towners. Most of the people in attendance were straight allies too. Downstream continues to be a great venue for current Jasper Pride events too.

As part of celebrating Jasper Pride 2017, Downstream Bar had created a Rainbow Cheesecake. The cheesecake was produced in house and contained most of the rainbow colours, missing the colour orange but not like anyone would notice. I love cheesecake and this one was exceptional.

While waiting for them to bring out the slice, some of the customers at the bar were filling me in on how amazing their desserts are. The chef had made from scratch a birthday cake for one of them with rum soaked peaches. They told me that it was amazing. You know when the place has great food when customers talk about it in the restaurant to total strangers.

I hope that on one of my trips to Jasper, that I can do a complete food review to try out some of the other items on their menu. Highlights from the menu is the Warm Pretzel Loaf, Braised Canadian Plains Bison Short ribs, and the Smoked Duck Club. They have an extensive selection of alcohol which is great for those who like to sample or have their favourite whiskey’s or scotch, rum, beer or wine.
