Last November GayCalgary was invited to the shave shop, Kent of Inglewood, to check out the Truefitt & Hill shaving products. After doing lots of reviews of electric shavers, this was a nice opportunity to try something different. I had never been to Kent of Inglewood before; being able to check out what they offer for shaving and other men’s products was great.

Truefitt & Hill have been around since 1805, making them the "Oldest Barber Shop in the World". They have locations in London, Chicago, Toronto and Beijing. In cities that don’t home one of their shops, high end men’s grooming stores carry their products. They offer everything from pre-shave oil, shaving soaps, shaving creams, colognes and aftershaves, to bath and shower gels, accessories and more.

Truefitt & Hill provided me with a sample pack of some of the different fragrances they produce for shaving creams and matching aftershave balm. The sample pack also included a pre-shave oil, totalling 15 samples. The pack is perfect for those who new to Truefitt & Hill scent options. Each sample allows for two to three uses.

Truefitt & Hill shaving creams are glycerin-based and work well on sensitive skin. I found that they created a nice creamy, rich lather, allowing that close shave that men are after. The after-shave balm was a good moisturizer to follow up with. It was not oily, and contains aloe vera extract and lanolin, which helps the skin heal after shaving.

The scent options ranged from rose, lavender and citrus, to hints of cedar, spice, sandalwood, and leather. It was hard for me to pick a specific scent that I liked most. It really depended on what I felt like during the day, or what I was going to be doing in the evening. Once you have figured out which scents you like, you can also purchase the matching colognes.

Truefitt & Hill put out premium shaving products, so expect to pay more but use less than you would the typical shaving creams you would purchase at a grocery or drug store. I found that I only needed to use about two or three pea size lumps to do my cheeks and neck. It still lathered up enough to provide a close shave.

Kent of Inglewood is also a great resource to find other quality products to go along with your shaving ritual – from blades, beard and moustache oil, to hair products, combs, brushes and shaving bowls. They also carry things you would not expect to find: mugs, travel bags, knives, axes, flasks, pocket squares, socks and ties. They have also just recently installed a couple of barber chairs. They offer haircuts, close shaves and beard trimming.
