Shaving products seem to be something that Philips loves sending us. The OneBlade was a lot different than any other their other products. In the past, I have received body hair trimmers, beard trimmers and shavers that give you a close shave. This one sits in that special scruffy zone.
Philips wants to stress that this is not a shaver – but more a beard trimmer. The OneBlade is smaller than any of the other shavers or beard trimmers I have reviewed, which makes it easier for travel or using at a gym. The OneBlade holds a 45-minute charge, so it should give you several uses if you are on the go. The trimmer comes with a charger and three combs, which are designed to give you an even, scruffy stubble.
I gave it a try. Without the combs, it lets you trim your facial hair, or the areas that you want shaved. It is designed to leave you with a little stubble ready to grow in – especially if you want the five o’clock shadow look. When you want that look, use the flat surface right up against your skin and move it across your face like you are using a razor.
The combs all have a short length so, depending what length of scruffy you prefer, snap them on as needed. The sizes are 5mm, 3mm and 1mm, so you can have that Oliver Queen from Arrow look. With the OneBlade being smaller than all the other shavers or trimmers I reviewed, I did not judge it well when it came to trimming my beard down. It took a while since my beard had grown out quite a bit. Slow and steady, it still managed to get the job done. The smaller size did, however, help in the fine detail, cleaning up the edges of my beard.
The blade is replaceable and they recommend replacing it every four months, depending on use. It is waterproof and cordless, so you can use it in the bath or shower. The unit goes for about $45 and a single replacement blade goes for about $20, where a two-pack goes for about $35.
If you are looking for something to provide you with a hot scruffy look all the time, this would be for you. If you are seeking a completely smooth shave or a larger beard, I would suggest check out some of the other Philips products that would work better for you. I recommend checking out the Philips website for examples of how some guys have used the OneBlade on their beards.
