December marks the beginning of a new era for the AIDS Calgary Awareness Association. Over the years the organization has grown to cater not just to Calgary, but also surrounding communities. "The broader meaning of HIV/AIDS has changed too. We no longer talk about people dying of AIDS; rather, we talk about people living with HIV," states Executive Chair, Susan Cress. The Association is shifting with the changing times, and it only seemed appropriate to mark a new chapter in their history with a name change.

This rebrand to HIV Community Link is the result of over twelve months of evaluation and careful consideration. The title connects all the communities in Calgary, Medicine Hat and Bow Valle, and was instilled directly from feedback from the community from ideas expressed in surveys, emails and day-to-day interaction. With the launch of the rebrand, HIV Community Link hopes to be an even larger and prominent part of the community within Alberta.

In celebration of the rebrand and in honor of World AIDS Day, HIV Community Link hosted a fun-filled evening for supporters to celebrate. On November 30th a large number of the community came together for United Voices, shares Weston Jacques, Communications Director of HIV Community Link. This family-friendly event, held at Scarboro United Church, offered something unique for people to celebrate together, featuring Enchor, Calgary’s Mens Choir and One Voice Chorus. Following the majestic choirs was a reception and a silent auction.

Patrons were able to interact with one another in support of a wonderful change within their community.  The event was a success, states Jacques proudly - a great way to end a wonderful year.

In the New Year, HIV Community Link will further grow with their community and strive to make 2014 the best on record for informing and supporting communities in and around Calgary.(GC)
