Possibilities is currently Calgary’s only bisexual/pansexual/fluid-specific community group, aiming to create a strong, safe, vibrant bisexual and pansexual community in Calgary. The group welcomes new members who experience attraction to multiple genders but choose not to label themselves. They recognize that terms for sexual orientation have unique meanings for each person who uses them, and many of these labels are rather flexible.
Possibilities aims to redefine how bisexuality and pansexuality are viewed. Their group is quickly growing, and is eager to become more involved in creating queer inclusive spaces and events throughout the city.
One of the most exciting events Possibilities proudly hosts is the annual Bi-BQ, and this year marks the second edition of the event. It presents an opportunity to increase the visibility of an easily overlooked part of the LGBT community - the "B". The event is geared to inform on the topics of bisexuality, pansexuality and other queer or minority sexualities, whilst bringing the community together. Possibilities received very positive feedback from last year's Bi-BQ, and hopes to see even more fresh or familiar faces this year.
The Bi-BQ will be held August 31st, 2013 from 5pm-8pm at James Short Park, as part of Calgary Pride weekend. This event caters to all ages and even includes a kid’s corner which features a craft tent and more. Live music from local musicians including Bayly & Chaychuck, Olivia Duck, Jessie Tollestrup and Logan Peters will entertain attendees. Possibilities is offering food choices for everyone’s taste and preference, including vegetarian and gluten-free.
Tiffany Sostar, Founder & Director of Possibilities Calgary is delighted to introduce the first All-Bodies, All-Genders Pan-Fashion Show sponsored by BeauCoo. An interactive games display with local non-profit MOIE (The Museum of Interactive Entertainment) will be on site for the duration of the event.
The Bi-BQ is an open event, and Possibilities welcomes every facet of the LGBT community to attend, mingle, learn, make new connections and establish new friendships.
For those interested in Possibilities, but unable to attend the BiBQ, the group has other offerings. A structured discussion group is offered on the first Wednesday of each month from 7:30-9:30pm. Structured discussions focusing primarily on issues regarding bisexuality and pansexuality are open to all genders, orientations and relationship structures. For more information, visit them on Facebook or Meet Up.
