The concept of blending the music of the Beatles with a medival theme is not a new one to Jubilations. They have done it twice in the past nine years, and in fact current show Hard Days Knights is a revamping of an original show in Winnipeg from many years ago. Sometimes sticking with what works is effective, and in the case of Hard Days Knights playing until November 6th that is true.

The show is initially set in current day at a Camelot convention. The convention coincidentally lands on the same night that Merlin (Lew Wetherell) is awaking from a 1000 year sleep. Cursed by with Morgan Le Fey, he awakes to find things are not as they appear. Begrudgingly the two blend their powers and "come together" to go back to the original Camelot.

King Arthur (Len Harvey) and wife Guinevere (Katelyn Morishita) are struggling with their marriage and balancing it with running the kingdom. Things are made more complicated by Le Fey's evil sidekick Mordred (Kevin Pownall) who makes a point of stirring the pot among the couple, as well as Arthur's top knight Sir Lancelot (Joseph Davies.)

The soundtrack is instantly recognizeable with Beatles classics like Hard Days Night, Come Together, You're Going To Lose That Girl and Help. An emotional rendition of Let It Be is one of the shows many musical highlights.

Hard Days Knights is a fun show that proves that when Jubilations gets it right, they can create something pretty cool. Our Jubilations visit was a family get together, and even those that aren't fans of musicals admitted they really enjoyed themselves. My Mom, who has attended many shows over the past 9 years declared it to be a favorite. And with the Mom stamp of approval, you can't go wrong.(GC)
