Jim "Da Blond" Alexander was a unique individual in a community full of unique individuals.  Heavily involved in the Edmonton Leather and Bear communities, he was well-known throughout Western Canada and down in the States for his boundless enthusiasm and his abiding admiration and love for his Leather and Bear brothers.

Jim sat on the Executive of Northern Chaps, Edmonton’s Leather/Levi Club, in 1991 and 1992. He was also a founding member, along with Michael Kurylo, of Edmonton’s bear community in 1993.  It was originally organized via the Beast BBS, which Michael ran from 1993 to 1998. Jim was also a founding member of the Festival City Bears founded in 2003 and Edmonton Men In Leather Founded in 2006.

One of Jim’s legacies will doubtlessly be his videography.  He was often to be seen barreling around some Leather or Bear function taping the event and having a great time doing it.  He never met a man he didn’t flirt with.

Jim was involved with the early years of the International Bear Rendezvous in San Francisco doing video documentaries for the event. Jim spent much of his years traveling to the States and other points in Canada promoting the Edmonton bear and leather communities.

Jim’s commitment to the gay Leather community was deep.  He believed Leathermen shared in a unique brotherhood and he was always proud to be amongst those brothers.

Jim died on April 17th, 2007 following two massive heart attacks, one while leaving a support group for those facing surgery, and another while enroute to the hospital.

Jim leaves behind his mother, Patricia Alexander; brother, Don, and sisters Patty, Sherry, Susie, Fay and Laurie, along with his nieces, nephews and numerous other relatives and many, many friends and chosen brothers.  He was predeceased by his father, Robert, his brother, Bob, and sister, Rosie.(GC)
