There
was a sense of anticipation at Flames Central on May 16th, as the
Coca-Cola Covert Concert took place to announce the 2011 lineup for the Coke
Stage.
The Coke Stage has offered an eclectic mix of music, free with admission, for
decades. The Tea Party, Jann Arden, Live, Our Lady Peace, Eve 6, Nelly Furtado,
Terri Clark, The Barenaked Ladies, Three Days Grace, Moist, Amanda Marshall,
Johnny Reid, Tom Cochrane, and Sum 41 are just a few of the many names that
have played the outdoor stage.
This year's line up features a long list of popular, mostly Canadian artists
like Marianas Trench, Fefe Dobson and Finger Eleven to name a few. Long time
fans will be excited to check out The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, while Kevin
Costner and his band Modern West should certainly draw a crowd.
The concert itself kicked off with Juno nominees Hollorado. Lead by singer
Menno Versteeg, the foursome got the crowd jumping up and down with them to
songs like Juliette and Americanarama.
Antigonish, Nova Scotia's The Trews headlined. Singer Colin MacDonald displayed
his impressive vocal range leading the audience in sing alongs to songs like Not
Ready to Go and Poor Ol' Broken Hearted Me.
"I think we've played the coke stage more than any other band," MacDonald
declared. "We can't wait to be back." They take the stage again July 15th.
The long tradition of concerts isn't just about the Coke stage. Nashville North
has a stellar line up of country stars like Doc Walker, Aaron Pritchett and
Gord Bamford, among others. The Saddledome will feature NKOTBSB, Katy Perry,
Sugarland, and Kenny Chesney.
