One Yellow Rabbit is pleased to announce Five Hole: Tales of Hockey Erotica as the headline event of the 21st Annual High Performance Rodeo. Created and performed live by Calgary’s One Yellow Rabbit Performance Theatre and legendary Toronto rock band Rheostatics, Five Hole will run from January 4th to 6th, 2007 at the Martha Cohen Theatre.
In Five Hole: Tales of Hockey Erotica the OYR Ensemble (Denise Clarke, Andy Curtis, Onalea Gilbertson and Michael Green) and Rheostatics (Dave Bidini, Selina Martin, Barry Mirochnick, Ford Pier and Martin Tielli) gear up and cross the blue line with tales of scoring both on and off the ice. Five Hole presents a suite of engrossing, tender and hilarious erotic stories about the steamy underbelly of Canada’s national sport in this scintillating look at hockey with its sweaty clothes off.
The play was adapted for the stage by Dave Bidini and Blake Brooker, based on Bidini’s recently released book The Five Hole Stories. The show is directed by Blake Brooker and staged by Denise Clarke, with original music composed and performed by Rheostatics.
The rest of the High Performance Rodeo’s lineup is nothing short of spectacular, with old favorites like the 10 Minute Play Festival, Bravo!FACT Screening; musical headliner Alejandro Escovedo with guests Jan Krueger & The Tipplers, dance productions by Springboard Dance, La Caravan Dance Theatre and other spectacular music, dance and theatre productions – all top notch productions as one can only expect from the High Performance Rodeo.
Queer folk will be especially thrilled to see performance artist Annie Sprinkle on the bill! Join Annie and partner Elizabeth Stephens for Yellow Wedding #3: Courage and Power. Ex-porn star, sexologist and performance artist Annie Sprinkle, sexy dyke playboy, experimental artist and professor Elizabeth Stephens are madly in love. They have vowed to have a wedding every year for seven years, partly in protest against the anti-gay marriage movement. This, the third wedding in their series, and the first in Canada, takes advantage of our laws to legally bind the two blushing brides. Be a bridesmaid, groomsman, tranny ring bearer or do your special wedding thing. Or just enjoy the show! Please dress in as much yellow as possible, and in the themes of courage and power. After the ceremony, stick around for a shin-dig of a reception! This is an 18+ event taking place on January 14th. Space is limited!
