Dear GayCalgary,

As we embark on the Artists for the quality of life 2nd annual Donnie Peters memorial Cut-a-thon, I’m reminded how it all began! Kevin Midbo, the then director of AIDS Calgary, had one day reminded me of how Donnie Peters had created the Cut-a-Thon, a totally community volunteered high-impact fundraiser that gave directly to making a difference in quality of life for those living with HIV/AIDS. Well, one would think recreating such a legendary event would be a daunting task…but NO!!!

Calgary’s top hair salons and stylists jumped on board in a heartbeat! The Uptown 17th BRZ was the first to become a proud sponsor. Then Roxy Richocet came on board, who has created incredible shows at Metro for two years in a row, with all proceeds going directly to the cut-a-thon.

Not to be outdone, my good friend and mentor (or is that mentress) Debi Leong recreates her Midnite Café reunion starting Saturday September 3rd @ 4pm in the Rek Room. It starts with a pool tournament, followed by Carla Foster and Karaoke, and finally up into Metro for the big show of shows which she is infamous for! Once again, all proceeds go directly to the Cut-a-thon.

On Sunday, Lorrie Murphy and all our friends at Money Pennies invite you to cure that hangover with some great food. At the Texas Lounge, Mikey Woodward supplies you with excellent karaoke fun – yet again, all proceeds go to the Cut-a-thon!

Now take a breath! Labour day Monday, the CUT-A-Thon at last!!

So you know you have the best cutters in the city - probably the country - but what do you do for entertainment? Well, when you have event organizers like Eric “Mystare” Jackson and Grant Lockie, then you’ve got the park Rockin’!

So, please join us and celebrate a legacy that we can be proud of.

We welcome you to visit our Gay Calgary magazine sponsored web site www.artistsforqualityoflife.com
As Donnie would say, “Go in love!”
