“And so it begins, the hilarious and quixotic adventure of one little soul, lost in the burning forests of British Columbia. Divorced, alone and missing her book collection, she turns her obsession of winning back her lover into a defiant stand against the flames. Futilely armoured, equipped with a blistered heart and noble intention, ‘The Fire Animal’ sheds her broken skin and valiantly dances with the flames.” One Yellow Rabbit and Ground Zero Theatre present, the Calgary premiere of Denise Clarke’s latest fiery creation, A Fabulous Disaster. She not only created this work, but also stars in it. Clarke began working with One Yellow Rabbit in 1983. She later became an Associate Artist and a permanent member of the One Yellow Rabbit Ensemble in 1986. She has created or co-created several shows for One Yellow Rabbit including: The Erotic Irony of Old Glory, Touch, CD Dance, Breeder, So Low, Permission, Featherland, Sign Language and Heavens to Murgatroid. She later created and became the director of the One Yellow Rabbit Summer Lab Intensive School in 1997. This very busy and talented woman’s work also includes choreography and direction for Theatre Calgary and Alberta Theatre Projects in Calgary, Edmonton’s Citadel Theatre, Crows Theatre, and the Canadian Stage Company in Toronto. GayCalgary.com contacted Diava Jocius of One Yellow Rabbit to find out more about this fabulous premiere that will be hitting the stage here in Calgary. “A Fabulous Disaster is Denise Clarke’s newest signature dance/drama about one seemingly hopeless person’s bravery in the face of obvious disaster around her and the quiet one in her heart. Strange and beautiful, the show toils with love, jealously, loneliness, acceptance, and brilliant stupidity. Clarke brings sharp observation and glorious physical response together in an original piece drawing on all things opposite.” The show premieres in Calgary at the Big Secret Theatre in EPCOR CENTRE for the Performing Arts, and runs from September 13th - October 1st, 2005. The production has already been seen across the country. “A Fabulous Disaster had its world premiere at the Firehall Arts Centre (Vancouver) in November last year when it was co-presented with Ruby Slippers Theatre. It also ran this past May as part of the prestigious Harbourfront Centre’s World Stage: Flying Solo Festival in Toronto.” A Fabulous Disaster has been getting rave reviews from across the country. It is a show that you will want to make time for. After all, who can really turn down something that is ‘Fabulous!’ “[Denise Clarke] shows you why dance blows words out of the water…told by one of Canada’s most genuine and endearing wizards of sign and voice.” - The Vancouver Sun “A Fabulous Disaster is simply fabulous. The disaster would be if you miss it.” - The Vancouver Courier “One hell of a show.” - Eye Weekly A Fabulous Disaster Presented by One Yellow Rabbit and Ground Zero Theatre September 13 - October 1, 2005 Tuesday – Saturday @ 8pm • Sunday @ 3pm Big Secret Theatre – EPCOR CENTRE for the Performing Arts  www.ticketmaster.ca Information: (403) 264-3224
