Patrons of Prism Bar in Edmonton are in for a treat this 28th of November! Singer-songwriter Lindsay Jane’s Canadian tour will take her through both our cities, and the very next day she visits the Ironwood Stage in Calgary.
I’m not entirely sure how to classify her album as a whole, since she seems to flip and fuse styles of folk, country and jazz. Regardless, the theme of love unites the songs on this album. Many tracks such as “Gasoline Stain”, “I am No Dancer”, “St. Pierre”, “I Have Lived”, and “To Let Lovers Go” are slow and sentimental, sometimes sad and beautiful (although occasionally too much so for my liking).
I preferred her more upbeat jazz piece, “The First Day After Summer” and the bossa nova rhythm of “Waiting”. Lindsay Jane’s gentle voice makes both pieces remind me of the styling of Nora Jones.
Although “Be There” is sad, it still contains a hope that resonated for me. “I Can’t Rescue You” is an appealing lament of love that cutely alludes to super heroes. Finally, “Oh My Dear” has an upbeat jazz melody overlaid with a cheeky fiddle – I bet it’ll put a smile on your face as it did mine.
The album is scheduled to be released on November 6th, 2007. Copies will be available at Megatunes in Calgary and Edmonton, or online at www.lindsayjane.ca.
