It’s been 40 years since Kevin Bacon, Lori Singer and John Lithgow starred in the smash hit movie Footloose. In 1998 a stage version debuted on Broadway. Now Stage West brings the high energy show to its stage until June22.

Footloose is the story of Ren (Sam Boucher), a Chicago teen who moves to small town Bomont – where dancing is illegal. There’re all sorts of tropes like the unapproving father, Reverend Shaw Moore (Curtis Sullivan) and his daughter Ariel (Paige Foskett) who falls for the protagonist. The goofy sidekick Willard(Ben Skipper) adds comedy relief.

The premise sounds ridiculous, but somehow the show still works. This is in part due to the soundtrack which features the title track as well as iconic songs like I Need A Hero and Let’s Hear It For The Boy. The cast goes all in on the show, bringing a ton of energy to the stage. Boucher and Foskett have great chemistry on stage.

Great singing, excellent choreography, and a creative set design all combine to make a remarkably fun show.

Making sure you bring your appetite is the other part of going to Stage West. Highlights for this show include escargot, deviled egg potato salad, beef stroganoff, and chocolate caramel cake.
