Jim Saville, owner of Spring Valley Guest Ranch, is excited to extend an invitation to couples, singles, men, women, pets and children to join him at his ranch for the August long weekend. Situated in a quiet, wooded valley, 20 minutes from Cypress Hills Provincial Park, the Spring Valley Guest Ranch will provide the perfect backdrop to get together with old friends, meet new ones, and to simply enjoy your weekend.
This long-weekend extravaganza begins on Friday, August 1st with registration commencing at 5pm in the saloon. Guests are free to arrive any time after noon to set up their tents or RVs. It is encouraged that guests arrive as early as they can, as spots are on a first-come, first-serve basis. Make sure to help yourself to a complimentary chili-on-a-bun while registration is happening.
The remainder of the weekend is filled with entertainment, great food, and a chance to enjoy the beautiful prairie surroundings. On Saturday night, sit down and enjoy comedian, magician, and juggler, Brad Saville – a Calgarian - as he makes you laugh and possibly brings you up on stage with him. To follow are the hilarious Dance Heads which will make you a singing and dancing star! By superimposing your head on a professional dancer’s body you can sing along to your favourite song, then take it home on a VHS copy.
Regina native Jeff Straker will be entertaining the crowd on Sunday night. Celebrating the release of his CD, Songs From Highway 15, this pianist, singer, and songwriter will remind you of a cross between Elton John and Rufus Wainwright. He is a phenomenal artist, and Ranch Rendezvous couldn’t be more pleased to have him play.
Good food is also an integral part of the Ranch Rendezvous experience. Calgary favourites, MP Catering (Lorrie and Michele Murphy, formerly of Money Pennies) will be making sure all the guests are well fed. On both Saturday and Sunday, there will be three buffet–style meals, and a brunch on Monday. While you eat, the talented John Robertson will entertain you with his renditions of classics such as “An English Country Garden” or the theme from the “Friendly Giant” on his six foot concert harp.
If all of this isn’t enough to keep you busy, perhaps a dip in the hot tub on a cool night will cap your day. Jim also encourages guests to bring kites, all depending on the wind conditions of course. Not to mention, a great way to fill your Sunday is with a day walk to the spring (about 1 1/2 miles) for a picnic lunch.
To get to Spring Valley Guest Ranch follow the #21 Highway south until you reach Davis Creek Road (about 42 km). Once there, turn left on the gravel road for about 14 km, until you reach the main gate on the left.
The weekend package will set you back only $150.00 per person, and there will be a cash bar each evening during the dances, happening after the entertainers. To register for this event, visit the website and click on the rainbow icon, or call (306) 295-4124. Pre-registration is mandatory for food preparation reasons, and payment is due upon arrival.
The Ranch Rendezvous at Spring Valley Guest Ranch is an event that shouldn’t be missed. Summer only lasts two months, and this is a perfect way to make the most of your time.
