The Calgary Men's Chorus will be performing as a guest of the Calgary Renaissance Singers & Players, along with guests Airdrie Community Choir, EnChor Chamber Choir and organist Jim Picken.
The Sword and the Cross is an extraordinary event that features four choirs coming together along with an impressive ensemble of instrumentalists for the performance of two of Giovanni Gabrieli's poly-choral works, Omnes Gentes and Buccinate. These pieces, written for four choirs, organ and various instruments, are rarely performed and the Calgary Men's Chorus is very excited to be a part of this concert. The audience will also be treated to a vast array of choral music including works by Palestrina, Giulio Caccini, Felice Anerio as well as works by contemporary composers Z. Randall Stroope and Jeffrey Ames, and works by Canadian composers Eleanor Daley and Imant Raminsh. Each choir explores the symbolic imagery of the sword and the cross through works that celebrate the triumph of good over evil, resurrection from death, and hope from destruction. This a concert you will not want to miss.
