Ever had bad luck with the ladies? Ever felt like you just can’t find Mr. Right? Ever wondered how to strike out with every potential partner you meet? If so this original play by Matt D. is the one to view at this year’s Calgary Fringe Festival. From August 3rd to August 11th this frustratingly funny, semi-autobiographical production will be taking over the Artpoint Gallery in Inglewood to amuse, and educate audiences in Calgary.
Directed by Calgary’s own Juan Delgado, and in cooperation with the Calgary Sexual Health Centre, this story teaches how to fail in love, relationships and even the occasional hook-up. "All of the stories and lessons in the play have been taken from real life experiences", says director Juan Delgado. "The comedy and to a certain extent the tragedy comes from real cringe worthy moments."
As a promotional partner the Calgary Sexual Health Centre
is 100% behind this new work. "The Calgary Sexual Health Centre is always looking for new and exciting ways to normalize talking about sex and promoting healthy sexuality. Our goal is to give people the information and offer support so when they do get laid, they can enjoy sex more and worry less", Tristan Abbott, Community Educator, CSHC.
How To Not Get Laid
, stars author Matt D. and Aadila Dosani as two idealistic characters teaching and sharing their personal rules that keep them from that magical night in the sack. "This piece will make me more vulnerable than I’ve ever been in my theatre career but I know I have to take that risk," says actor and playwright Matt D.
Matt started acting in 1993 and has been involved in the Calgary theatre scene ever since as an actor, director, designer, and playwright. Matt is the cofounder of Big Th-eer-sis and has been its artistic director since 2004. Director Juan Delgado has eight years experience improvising with the Loose Moose Theatre Company. Currently Juan is a member of the award winning comedy troupe, Sciencebear and Casting Director for Six Degrees Music and Productions.
The seventh installment of the Calgary Fringe Festival is bringing over 34 local, national and international theatre artist companies to the city this year. The performances range from family shows to musicals, to dance, monologues, masques, dramas, comedies, improvisation and the risqué... you name it, the Fringe has it! On any given day, there is a minimum of 15 to a maximum of 24 shows happening at the Fringe.
Tickets are available through the Calgary Fringe Festival at 403.451.9726,
