Released: Thursday June 14, 2012 (Edmonton, AB) - Works Art and Design Festival

One week from today, The Works Art and Design Festival will turn Downtown Edmonton into North America’s largest, free, outdoor art and design Festival. For thirteen days, this summer, the Festival will bring you 53 one-of-a-kind installations and exhibits, and over 250 special events, performances, and opportunities to meet the minds behind the art.

This year, the festival theme is Energy II: Collaboration, a contemplation of creative forces and the working relationships that bring them to fruition.

Kick things off at The Works Opening Night Party, on June 21, with the fiery tribal rhythms of Red Power Squad, People’s Poet & Company, A Tribe Called Red – Electric Pow Wow, Wab Kinew, and Nik 7 on Churchill Square, until the Square closes.

Then, head over to Moriarty’s Bistro & Wine Bar (10154 100 Street NW) for The Works Official After Party! Catch a first glimpse of the art of legendary Montreal art collective En Masse, who are painting this year’s Works Gateways. Tickets will only cost you $5 at the door.

Remember to plot your entire Festival experience through The Works App, designed by the tech wizards at Guru Digital Arts College. In addition to serving as an exhibit venue for the 2012 Festival, Guru has helped design a mobile device application that puts all the Festival info you need in the palm of your hand.

This is a big year for The Festival. The Works Canadian Aboriginal Artist Program is now in its fourth year. PopSex!, in The Works Big Tent is a research project undertaken by the artists and scholars from Calgary and Berlin into the histories and futures of human sexuality.
